Punctuality and Attendance

Children who attend school regularly do better at school and get better results by the end of their schooling, leading to better jobs and better prospects.

You can do a number of things to support your children to get the most out of their education by encouraging excellent attendance:

  • make all routine non-urgent appointments outside of school time
  • bring children in to school on time every day

Legislation makes it clear that Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Headteachers no longer have the discretion to allow up to 10 days in a school year for a family holiday or to agree to extended leave for parents to visit their country of origin.

If there are exceptional circumstances behind a request, parents should discuss these with the Headteacher. If a child is absent from school because of a holiday which has not been agreed, this will be classified as an unauthorised absence and parents may be fined or have legal action taken against them. All term time absences must be requested by submitting an Application Form for Leave of Absence to Headteacher.

Absence Reporting

If your child is going to be absent from school, please contact the school office before 9am on the first day of absence, by phone or email, confirming the reason for your child's absence.  If they will be absent for longer than one day please keep us updated.
